Details of sample preparation
CLAY SAMPLES
We used a round tile cutter to produce crisp samples and pressed a wooden stamp of our logo into the soft clay.
These were dried out slowly to prevent warping and biscuit fired to 1000 deg cent.
EARTHENWARE samples were glazed with P2017 a Potterycrafts Ltd transparent glaze and re-fired to 1060.
STONEWARE samples were glazed with P2048 a Potterycrafts Ltd transparent glaze and fired to 1230 deg cent.
We used a Rohde Ecotop 43L kiln.

Potclays Original Craft Crank
Original Craft Crank, product summary
Tiles, hand building, sculptural work, slabbing, general and large domestic.
An unsurpassed handbuilding clay. With a unique blend of fireclays and ball clays producing a pleasant toasted colour in oxidation, whilst speckled orange-brown under reduction. Carefully graded grog additions to a superb blend of clays makes this clay outstanding for all larger forms of slabbing and handbuilding.
'Toasting' occurs in the firing when the soluble salts in the body combine with the iron content at higher temperatures. This toasting is more pronounced in thicker section ware which has been dried slowly and fired to a higher temperature.
The unique plasticity of the clay enables the more adventurous potter to throw with it.
